At the age of his 6, his family relocated to United States. American psychologist, Urie Bronfenbrenner, formulated the Ecological Systems Theory to explain how the inherent qualities of children and their environments interact to influence how they grow and develop. Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory Urie Bronfenbrenner noticed that a child’s nature depends on the context they grew up in. Thus, he decided to study what factors had the most effect on childhood development. Bronfenbrenner considered that the environment was made up of four interrelated systems. Liese met Urie Bronfenbrenner at the University of Michigan in the early 1940s while he was a doctoral candidate and she was an undergraduate. They married in 1942 and moved to Ithaca in 1948 when Urie joined the Cornell faculty.
